Is AI the secret sauce for making smart homes ubiquitous?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to be interlinked with every aspect of our lives in the next few years. Many spaces rely solely on AI for work and their day-to-day lives. They have become the device that transformed their lives. Smart home in itself is a rather new concept and while the technology exists for it, there can never be enough research done in any technological field and the same goes for home automation.
Entrepreneurs looking to establish a footing in this should seriously consider using AI in their smart home products. Along with the services to ensure that they are able to achieve the highest level of functionality from their devices.
Safety will remain the most important aspect of smart homes no matter what. A home is only safe when you feel secure in it. Therefore, by adding AI-based devices, you are making your house the same. Self/auto-locking doors as well as sensors and cameras that monitor activities outside and inside the house will be key to creating a secure home.
Smart devices used at home
AI-enabled smart devices should be able to do the following. Things such as recognising trusted visitors, unlocking the door itself. They can be used as a security purpose as well by notifying who passed the house. Or even attempted to cause a disturbance. They could even have functionalities such as alerting the police in case you are not home and a fire breaks out in the house or there is an intruder.
The next aspect would be intelligent systems that do not have to be monitored by humans. An air conditioning system that can automatically set its temperature depending on the weather conditions outside.
The applications could be complicated such as an oven preheating itself when you search up a recipe for a cake. These kinds of functions will make the owner’s experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Another fascinating part of AI is the ability to control and maximise efficiency. By installing a smart system into the house; they should be able to reduce the wastage of electricity, water and other important resources. AI-based systems will be able to do this by learning the patterns and behaviours of people living in the house.
This would eventually lead to monetary savings as well as the bills generated for these resources will reduce.
Voice-controlled devices are convenient as they don't require the person to free their hands, or stop what they are doing. A simple example is asking Amazon’s Alexa, a home assistant, to play a song while you are preparing food.
All you have to do is say the name of the song and then command Alexa to play it. Had this option not existed, you would have to stop what you were doing. Wash your hands and then play the song using the phone.
Will you add an AI device in your house?
These devices have become popular and made this space competitive. But integrating this technology with the central hub and therefore the devices can bring tremendous competitive advantage.
Needless to say, AI is the future. And to achieve more from a home and the smart devices, the integration of AI is an absolute necessity.
