Schneider India’s ambitious plan for home automation

One such company is Schneider India. This company plans to convert 1 lakh Indian homes into Smart Homes. For the sake of information, Smart homes are the houses that are deployed with smart home devices (e.g.: Light bulbs, Lamps, Toasters, Microwaves, etc) that are connected to the internet through local WiFi (most often). 

All these devices are then connected to your phone or your virtual assistant so that you can control all of them with simple voice commands or using the touch screen on your phone just so that you don’t have to get up to open that damn door the next time someone knocks on it.

Schneider India has set a milestone to make 100,000 Indian homes smart, safe, convenient, and comfortable in the next couple of years with their newly-launched IoT-driven Easy Homes solutions.

After carrying out an extensive study on Indian homes and needs, they realized that there were several key stoppers of growth some of which were:

1. People prefer diverse homes, where kids, parents, and old people live on their own.

2. Almost all Smart home solutions were designed for newly built homes.

3. The high cost of such smart home devices and systems and some others.

Making the solution budget-friendly and easy-to-install

Schneider has worked long enough to counter these problems and finally come into the Indian Smart home market with a range of its smart home systems that has 4 interfaces that can be easily operated by your phones or Virtual Assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Home or Echo or by literally anyone. 

They will have over 10,000 Easy Homes Smart electricians available on-call on its app in six months. 

Business Leader of Schneider Mr. Shanbhogue with 18 years of experience in the Indian Market said in an interview, “With the Internet of things taking over lives, automation has made lives simpler and homes smarter. Smart homes are the base of smart cities. Connected home technology is designed to automate functions and bring to individuals control over their property. Our solution will automate every device, including a vintage TV set or an antique baking machine, that has a switch and works on electricity”.

For the most part, people still having problems shifting to smart homes is the cost factor. Schneider Electric India claims to have resolved this issue too; for example, a single-bed home can be deployed with an IoT system for less than ₹30,000 against ₹6 lakh and upwards in the past.

Now we can only wait and see if Schnieder is successful in their mission or not. If they are, it’ll be a mini-revolution for Indian households and its market too.
